A Spanish cement company will substitute the 20 percent of the common fuel employed in the industrial process of production, with wheel wastes.

Madrid, Spain - a Galician cement company will substitute the 20 percent of the common fuel employed in the industrial process of production with wheel wastes.

A team of researchers in the department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) have implemented a system for the recycling of residual pieces of tires.

The experiment, start up in the cement factory, has allowed to save by each tire between 10 and 12 kilos of coal, or their equivalent: 7,5 liters of petroleum.

Not only the costs have been reduced, this has also happened in the level of contamination.

The process consists in the combustion of the organic materials of the tire at very elevated temperatures. The calorific power of the rims is of 35 million Julies (MJ) by kilo.

"The incineration of the used tires has as advantage the fact of being an exothermic process, with the following heat attainment that can be used like a source of power", said the coordinator of the project, Jose Manuel Navaza.

For the specialists, this one is an opportunity to save spaces of the nature devastated and burnt by the man.

The objective is "to reduce the fossil non renewable fuel consumption and to give an effective and safe answer to the society in the treatment of its wastes", added Navaza.
